The new EU energy efficiency label was introduced at the end of 2021 to enable a meaningful scaling for the assessment of electrical appliances' power consumption. Many electrical appliances had long been rated A++, which could not be further increased.
In AG's current rating system, appliances previously rated A++ are now more in the mid-range. What used to be an A+, for example, often ends up at E or F today – without any change in the lamp's power consumption. This is intended to encourage manufacturers to further improve efficiency.
This new rating has not made the products less efficient; it has simply shifted the efficiency rating.
