What do I need to consider when buying a charger for the Salt?
1. the charger must support the Power Delivery (PD) fast charging standard. Power Delivery
is an official USB charging standard and therefore a manufacturer-independent fast charging technology.
2. the charger must have a USB-C port
3. the charger must offer either 9V/ min.2A, or/and 12V/min.2A secondary charging voltage. We recommend a charger with at least 20W, better 25W.
Can a USB-C PD charger with more than 25W also be used, or will this harm Salt?
With the Power Delivery standard, the optimum voltage is always negotiated between the consumer (Salt) and the charger. Even if the charger has a higher output, only a maximum voltage of 12V is selected.
Can the Salt&Pepper, Parrot or John charger be used to charge the Salt?
Yes, these chargers are compatible with the Salt.
Can I also use a charger with a USB-A plug?
No, this is not possible because a charger with a USB-A connection will only supply 5V voltage, but Salt requires 9V or 12V.
Can Salt also be charged with a voltage of 5V?
No, this is not possible, Salt requires 9V or 12V.
Can I use a cable other than the original one supplied?
In any case, you must use a USB cable with a USB-C plug on both sides. In addition, an e-marker chip must be built into the plugs to negotiate the required charging voltage between Salt and the charger. If you use a cable without integrated chips, the cable will only allow a voltage of 5V and Salt will therefore not charge.
Does the charger have to have the Power Delivery (PD) fast charging standard?
As there are different fast charging technologies, we can only guarantee compatibility for chargers with Power Delivery. Power Delivery is an official USB charging standard and therefore a manufacturer-independent fast charging technology.
Are other fast charging standards supported in addition to Power Delivery?
During the charging process, the charger will generate its own heat. If the charger is still cool 15 minutes after the start of the charging process, charging will not take place.
However, as soon as you plug in the USB-C connector (when the charger is already energised), you will receive feedback from the status LED, which flashes for approx. 5 seconds.
